Christmas cards have arrived!

My Christmas cards have arrived!!! So very exciting! There are 2 designs to choose from – one is Ruby & the Bear, and the other is Peace Man… Cards cost £2.20 including delivery, and if you wanted to go really wild I am doing 10 cards for £15, that is a serious bargain.

I’ve been madly busy lately with graphic design work, illustration commissions and a hugely exciting top secret book illustration project which I can’t wait to share!

If you fancy buying some cards just drop me an email at emma@laserra.co.uk and I’ll pop some in the post for you xxxx

Christmas commissions

It’s been a really exciting few weeks and I’ve got a lovely mixed bag of work at the moment! I’ve been working on a bit of branding and graphic design for a new company launching in Rutland in the New Year, illustrating a Christmas card for a construction training centre and designing a tattoo for the lovely Brooke of Handmade by Brooke.

The best bit has been working on some fantastic commissions – 2 boys in their superhero den, 3 children walking the dog, 2 busy boys biking at Rutland Water, a seaside portrait with someone else’s dog, 2 more boys with their pallet creations in the garden, individual portraits with guinea pigs, rabbits, and cuddlies! It’s been brilliant! And as almost everything is for Christmas it’s all TOP SECRET!

If you’re wobbling on the fence thinking you might just want a Christmas illustration please get in touch soon, I still have a few spaces left for pre-Christmas commissions, but not for long! They really are such a lovely pressie, and I can now deliver to anywhere in the UK, beautifully packed and ready to hang on the wall.

In other news, I have been working hard on my Christmas cards and I’m really hoping to have them printed and ready to buy in the next fortnight… here is a sneaky peak at the work in progress stage… watch this space!

Mary Poppins

My Grandma is 84 today! She is the centre of our family unit and we love her dearly. Two good things have coincided with Grandma (Great Gran)’s birthday, one I have a new printer, and two, Mary Poppins is coming to Leicester Curve…

Cue a happy Friday night pulling together a quick card design for her, whipping it off the new printer, and a secret plan (hatched long ago when tickets were still available) to take the whole family to see Mary Poppins at half term, she will be so excited! My two will also be so excited! I am so excited! We’re all excited…!

Here’s a sneaky peek at the super quick card design I did for her, birthday tea later, flowers to pick, presents to make and pictures to draw now with two very devoted great grandchildren!

a bit of chalkboard inspiration

I’ve been working some designs up into a chalkboard style – even got a commission based on the ‘I will be loving you’ format!

Fred’s had a change around in his bedroom and I’ve been wanting to do some knight prints for a while, I also had a few sketches for the mermaid and elderly couple design knocking around so it was good to get these worked up. Really enjoying working in simple black and white and aiming to get a load of these transferred over to the etsy shop soon…

I added colour to the text only designs, and these are A4 size and will go up in Fred’s room for now, but would make good personalisable prints I think.

surface pattern design

I’ve started a course in surface pattern design to see how I get on – I love pattern and colour and having had a go at the knitted bits and pieces I thought I’d try and expand my photoshop/illustrator skills and see what I can do…

so it’s been a very busy week trying to keep up with the exercises whilst entertaining two small children on the second week of half term (!!!), here is a bit of this weeks work, including my first ever patterns. I’m really pleased with them considering I’ve only just started, I thought they looked a bit Quentin Blake-y which is exactly what I was going for, next week we are doing more about adding colour, so I should be able to do more complicated layers. Very exciting!

card designs

I’ve been working hard trying to get some saleable items together – I’ve done a few watercolours over the last month or so that needed a bit of jigging around, and I’m sending off for card & fine art print proofs for them to sell in my online shop soon.

Today I’ve been finishing off 5 card designs, 3 nursery themed, one is the nonna one and then the first of the pedigree dogs. I’ve also been working on a painting of my parents’ house that’s starting to come together well. I’d love to do some more houses, it’s really satisfying to be so precise.

I’m in a real dilemma at the moment with my artwork, it’s hard to maintain focus when you work on your own and I miss seeing lots of people at work… but I love painting and designing…
